Friends of Tommy presents
a concert to benefit the
Accelerated Cure Project for
Multiple Sclerosis

September 19, 2010 6:30 PM
National Hispanic Cultural Center

Albuquerque, NM

The mission of Healing, Harmony & Heart is to create a cultural connection between community and business through jazz, advancing awareness of multiple sclerosis and improving resources available to those affected by the disease.

The second annual Healing, Harmony & Heart concert has two featured programs. The Geri Allen Project - Celebrating Eric Dolphy.  This impressive group of progressive jazz figures includes pianist and 2008 Guggenheim Fellowship Award recipient Geri Allen; clarinetist/composer and 2007 USA Gund Foundation Fellow Don Byron; saxophonist/flutist/composer and 1993 Guggenheim Fellowship Award  and 2006 Melon Jazz Living Legacy Award recipient Oliver Lake; bassist Dwayne Dolphin who performed on Nancy Wilson's Grammy Award winning R.S.V.P. cd; and drummer Jeff "Tain" Watts whose career recognitions include 14 Grammy nominations and 5 Grammies for Best Jazz Instrumental Performance.  JUST IN: Ms. Allen, Don Byron, and Tain Watts were just awarded Downbeat Magazine's Critic's Poll TOP 10 Jazz Artists in 2010.  Anything is possible with this Geri Allen All Star Band!

Antonio Ciacca will open the evening with a special solo piano program. He is a fresh and exciting Italian jazz pianist whose playing is shaking the ground with fury here on US soil.  To no surprise, Mr. Ciacca is also the Director of Programming at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

The Accelerated Cure Project for Multiple Sclerosis
is dedicated to finding a cure for MS. Its two main efforts are: developing a Cure Map to document what is known and unknown about the causes of MS and creating for use by researchers a large-scale, multidisciplinary repository of blood samples and data from people with MS and other demyelinating diseases.
