About Accelerated Cure Project
Accelerated Cure Project for Multiple Sclerosis is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to curing MS by determining its causes.
Our main effort is the creation of a large-scale, multidisciplinary repository of blood samples and data from people with MS and matched controls. We make these samples available to researchers investigating the causes of MS. In exchange for access to the repository, researchers agree to share the data they generate from the samples, so that results from disparate experiments can be studied.
We are also developing a Cure Map to establish and document what is known and what is not known about the causes of MS. From the Cure Map, Accelerated Cure Project will help facilitate the research most likely to reveal the causes of MS in the shortest time through use of our MS Repository.
Accelerated Cure Project History
In June of 2000, Art Mellor was experiencing numbness, tingling, and other unexplained symptoms. His primary care physician at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts put him in touch with a neurologist who, after some blood-work, an examination, and a couple of MRIs, made the diagnosis of MS.
Given the magnitude of such a diagnosis, Art sought a second opinion. Through contacts with a friend who works at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, he was introduced to Dr. Timothy Vartanian. Dr. Vartanian was able to confirm the diagnosis and agreed to take Art on as a patient.
A serial entrepreneur by career, Art was accustomed to solving problems. Searching the Internet, reading popular and academic books and research papers, and meeting with MS researchers from both the academic and pharmaceutical worlds, Art realized a cure for MS would not be forthcoming any time soon. From his frustration was born Accelerated Cure Project
Accelerated Cure Project needs your help…
With over 400,000 MS patients in the US and over 2,000,000 worldwide, this is a disease that needs attention. Currently, there is not enough emphasis put on MS research and, in turn, the research process is slowed. Your involvement and financial support are critical to our success in changing this. Working together, we can change the lives of all people living with MS.
